The Healthy Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Where It All Began

In 2015 group founder Marita Tilley started one of Facebook’s largest breed-specific canine health groups; The Healthy Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. As you may know, the cavalier breed is sadly plagued by so many serious health conditions - therefore, The group is dedicated to sharing ideas, researching, and providing information on how to keep our Cavalier King Charles Spaniels in the best health possible, as naturally as possible, for as long as possible.

Marita has always been very passionate about health and wellness. She opened the natural health school of complementary therapies.  The school was an ITEC registered college and provided specialist courses in Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology, Holistic massage, Reflexology, neuromuscular technique, trigger point therapy, Indian head massage, hot stone massage, Hopi ear candling, baby massage, pregnancy massage, and seated upper body massage. Hundreds of students trained at the school which ran for seven years.

After helping out at her son’s chiropractic office, Marita saw how so many lives were enhanced when taking a natural approach to health, things such as a fresh diet, exercise and chiropractic care were changing so many people’s health for the better.  One night she was relaxing in her bath and thinking about human health, and then got to thinking about all the problems our beautiful cavaliers suffer from - suddenly she had what she describes as ‘ a light bulb moment ‘  it was very apparent that our dogs needed exactly the same support as humans get, she jumped out the bath, grabbed the computer, thought of a name - and the rest became history.

The very first member was Helen Ostle, and from that day to the present, we have now joined 42.6 thousand members. So many dogs have Benefited from even the smallest of changes their pet parents are making.  We have seen very sick dogs turn the corner and are now thriving once fed a fresh food diet, we deselect the fact that every cavalier is unique and individual, so what may work for one may not for another, but we look at the whole picture when helping with suggestions. The group does not take the place of a veterinarian, and we always state it is the owner’s responsibility to seek medical advice if their dog is sick or unwell. . The group gives wonderful support to cavalier owners, and we look forward to having you join us.

The most important thing I have witnessed in the group is “when we know better, we do better”, and education is everything, it gives us the opportunity to help and support our dogs, in the best way possible.

My hope has never changed from day one, all I want is to see this beautiful breed live longer and healthier lives, free from all pain.  They deserve the best, it is a very very beautiful and special breed of dog, and myself and my admin team are totally dedicated to their well-being.
